One year ago today, the federal government implemented its Migrant Protection Protocols (MPP, commonly referred to as the “Remain in Mexico” policy). MPP forces asylum seekers to return to and remain in Mexico through the duration of their asylum proceedings, depriving them of protection, and access to resources and assistance in the U.S., including legal aid. Initially starting as a pilot program at the San Ysidro Port-of-Entry, MPP has now expanded across the southern border. Help us shed light on the atrocities of MPP. Asylum seekers are currently huddled in makeshift tents in freezing temperatures, children are traumatized witnessing and enduring violence, human rights abuses, and families are still being torn apart. This is a government failure and it is time to restore asylum now!
