In response to the current humanitarian crisis regarding the mistreatment of asylum-seeking families in the Tijuana/San Diego border region, ImmDef is hiring a paralegal to support the attorneys in our San Diego office. This position will report directly to our San Diego office's managing attorney and will be responsible for providing administrative support as well as direct legal support on a variety of cases including removal defense, appellate cases and federal litigation.
Reporting to the Administrative Coordinator, the Receptionist will be the community’s first point of contact with our organization, and to provide administrative support across all our Programs, but chiefly to the Children Representation Project. This is an excellent entry-level position with a dynamic organization and is perfect for someone looking to get their foot-in-the-door doing social justice work.
Reporting to the Paralegal Coordinator, the Paralegal is primarily responsible for legal support for ImmDef Staff Attorneys and Managing Attorneys. The Paralegal is also responsible for providing case support for Legal Directors as needed.
Staff Attorney (Post-Conviction Relief)
ImmDef seeks a full-time Staff Attorney, based in our Los Angeles office, to primarily work on preparing and litigating post-conviction relief for individuals facing deportation proceedings, as well as providing research and evaluation of criminal issues in removal defense cases. The staff attorney may also represent individuals in their removal proceedings in immigration court. The Staff Attorney will work under the direct supervision of our Supervising Attorney experienced in post-conviction relief and in collaboration with managing and staff attorneys. Our attorneys receive support from paralegals, administrative assistants and case managers.
Due to a recent expansion in our funding, ImmDef is currently seeking a full-time Legal Assistant to support our team of attorneys who provide direct representation to children and adults in the immigration removal system. The Legal Assistant will work under the supervision of our Managing and Directing Attorneys to provide administrative and legal support. The Legal Assistant will be responsible for filling out USCIS forms, creating filings, word processing, creating spreadsheets, filing and case organization.
NQRP Staff Attorney
The Staff Attorney provides competent immigration legal representation and removal defense in a high-volume varied immigration legal practice that includes limited-scope counsel and advice, bond-only representation, and full-scope representation for all available remedies afforded to a client before the immigration court. This positon will focus on adult representation.
Reporting to the Development & Communications Manager (DCM), the Communications Strategist will be primarily responsible for developing and executing the organization’s external communications strategy, including press and media releases, newsletters, social media and blog posts, and website maintenance. The Communications Strategist will work with the executive leadership and Development & Communications team on shaping, strategizing and directing external communications with partner organizations, public and media and will create a cohesive and effective communications strategy.
DYEP Program Associate
Reporting to the DYEP Program Coordinator (DYEP PC), the DYEP Program Associate is primarily responsible for providing information to detained minors about their rights in the U.S. Additionally, the DYEP Program Associate is responsible for better preparing detained minors for the immigration court process and assisting in acquiring pro bono legal representation.
The DYEP Program Associate regularly travels to local shelters to provide service to ImmDef clients.
CRP Staff Attorney
The Staff Attorney will be primarily responsible for providing direct deportation removal defense representation. Clients may include detained adults or unaccompanied minors or both. The Staff Attorney will work under the direct supervision of a Managing Attorney and in collaboration with their fellow attorneys. Support for the Staff Attorney comes from paralegals, administrative assistants and case managers.
Data Entry & Quality Control Clerk
Under the direction of the Administrative Coordinator, the Data Entry and Quality Control Clerk is a data-focused position that provides support to all ImmDef programs to ensure contract compliance and facilitate outcome reporting.
