WASHINGTON, DC — U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal (WA-07), Ranking Member of the Immigration Integrity, Security, and Enforcement Subcommittee, is hosting a shadow hearing titled Kidnapped and Disappeared: Trump’s Lawless Third Country Disappearances.

This shadow hearing will dive deeper into the cases of those lawlessly kidnapped and disappeared to third countries like El Salvador, Panama, Costa Rica, South Sudan, and Libya. This will be an opportunity for Members to further discuss these cases and hear from attorneys representing some of those deported to third countries, including those disappeared under the Alien Enemies Act.

Witnesses will include:

  • Lindsay Toczylowski, President and CEO of Immigrant Defenders Law Center (ImmDef), legal counsel for Andry Romero

  • Robyn Barnard, Senior Director, Refugee Advocacy, Human Rights First

  • Lee Gelernt, Deputy Director of the Immigrants’ Rights Project, American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU)

  • Beatriz Guzman, Venezuelan-American immigrant and immigration attorney

Please note that space is limited; if you or another reporter from your outlet plans to attend in person, RSVP by emailing media@immdef.org. A livestream link will be available the morning of the event.

Where: Rayburn 2168

When: Friday, June 6 at 8:30 AM – Votes

This will be the first in a series highlighting the real people wrongfully kidnapped from their families by this administration. Note: This hearing is hosted by Congresswoman Jayapal and is not official business of the Judiciary Committee.
