ALVARO M. HUERTA NAMED TO OUT MAGAZINE’S 31ST ANNUAL OUT100 LIST

PRESS RELEASE – OCTOBER 16, 2025

The Annual Issue Honors Changemakers in the LGBTQ+ Community Across Entertainment, Politics, Activism, Sports, and More

LOS ANGELES, CA— Alvaro M. Huerta, civil rights lawyer and Director of Litigation and Advocacy at the Immigrant Defenders Law Center (ImmDef), has been selected as an honoree on the 31st annual Out100 list, Out magazine’s annual recognition of the most influential and pioneering LGBTQ+ individuals across entertainment, politics, activism, sports, and more. Alvaro has been recognized for his remarkable contributions to the fight for justice on behalf of immigrants, furthering equality and visibility for the LGBTQ+ and migrant community.

Alvaro leads ImmDef’s most impactful legal fights, taking on the federal government to defend immigrants’ rights and dismantle systemic abuse. His work has helped increase access to legal counsel for vulnerable immigrants, including unaccompanied children, while shining a spotlight on inhumane detention conditions and the mistreatment of asylum seekers. Through strategic litigation and advocacy, he’s helped protect due process rights and exposed the cruelty of our immigration enforcement system.

Along with his colleagues at ImmDef, Alvaro played a key role in advocating on behalf of fellow Out100 honoree Andry Hernández Romero, the gay makeup artist who was unlawfully disappeared into El Salvador’s notorious CECOT mega-prison and held incommunicado for 125 days without due process. As immigration raids intensified across Southern California earlier this year, Alvaro joined the legal team that challenged ICE’s unlawful enforcement practices, including racial profiling and warrantless arrests. Mr. Huerta said, “I’m honored and humbled to receive this recognition on behalf of all the fierce advocates fighting for, and alongside, the courageous immigrant community, including all the beautiful LGBTQ+ immigrants who come to the United States searching for an opportunity to live authentically as themselves. I share this honor with my colleagues at ImmDef, all of whom are amazing human beings fighting the good fight against the current administration’s vicious immigration crackdown. Now, more than ever, we must stand up and demand that our government recognize the inherent dignity and humanity of our immigrant brothers and sisters.

”This year’s Out100 theme, “Bolder, Brighter!”, speaks to the LGBTQ+ individuals who continue to lead with resilience, courage, and joy in the face of adversity. Alvaro M. Huerta joins an illustrious list of trailblazers who have significantly impacted the world, both within and beyond the LGBTQ+ community. This year’s list also includes Icon of the Year and cover star Niecy Nash-Betts, along with music artists Doechii, G Flip, Frankie Grande, and Brooke Eden; esteemed actors/actresses Rosie O’Donnell, Keke Palmer, Jeff Hiller, Miles Heizer, Juan Pablo Di Pace, Bre-Z, Tonatiuh, Tramell Tillman, Lukas Gage, Anna Camp; drag stars Bob the Drag Queen, Suzie Toot, Ginger Minj; comedians Caleb Hearon, Meg Stalter, Benito Skinner, Owen Thiele, Matt Rogers, Amber Ruffin; professional athletes Courtney Williams, Natisha Hiedeman, Tobin Heath, and Christen Press reality TV stars Ariana Madix and Chrishell Stause; fashion icons Bob Mackie and Paul Tazewell; political figures Rep. Sarah McBride, Precious Brady-Davis, and more.

The honorees will be celebrated at the annual Out100 event on November 21, 2025, at nya studios WEST in Hollywood, where icons and allies will come together to honor those who have made an indelible mark on the LGBTQ+ community. The event will feature Mr. Huerta alongside fellow honorees for a night of celebration, reflection, and recognition.
