The Immigrant Defenders Law Center (“ImmDef”) is a next-generation, social justice law firm that provides high-quality representation and legal services to immigrants in Southern California. Our staff is comprised of advocates and activists from the immigrant rights community who collectively have decades of experience fighting for the rights of immigrants in Southern California and beyond. Our organization was founded with the belief that no immigrant should be forced to go into court alone, and we see our universal representation programs as a first step towards that goal. 


Reporting directly to the Co-Legal Directors, the Support Services Manager (SSM) directly supervises a team of staff to include Paralegal Coordinators, Administrative Coordinators, Case Management Coordinators and others as assigned. The SSM creates, implements and coordinates various organizational policies and procedures in order to support ImmDef’s provision of legal representation to hundreds of immigrants facing deportation proceedings.


Essential Functions

  • Provide direct supervision, support and guidance to all support staff coordinators as well as other staff members as assigned/needed on a permanent or temporary basis;

  • Provide guidance to direct reports to continue to develop their personnel management skills, increase their substantive knowledge and support their leadership development;

  • Increase standardization of administrative functions across organization and ensure administrative policies and procedures are working efficiently and sustainably;

  • Primary responsibility for overseeing and delegating the maintenance, organization and upkeep of ImmDef’s SharePoint site.

  • Primary responsibility for overseeing, managing and delegating tasks related to ImmDef’s Cerenade case management database;

  • Primary responsibility for overseeing, managing and delegating tasks related to all contractual data reporting;

  • Running monthly data reports to ensure ongoing staff compliance with all contractual data reporting requirements and in order to provide leadership with ongoing internal metrics checks;

  • Supporting co-legal directors by compiling and managing reports to assist with program management and personnel assignments;  

  • Creation, management and delegation of tasks to ensure that complete and current policies and procedures exist for all ImmDef programs;

  • Develop onboarding procedures and ongoing support to Coordinators to ensure that all training needs for support staff are being met;

  • Implement, manage and delegate tasks related to the maintenance of referral mechanisms for all contracts and projects;  

  • Meet regularly with co-legal directors and other members of management team to ensure that all support services are providing efficient, effective and optimal support to attorneys that help produce high-quality service for our clients;

  • Proven ability to handle confidential information with discretion, be adaptable to various competing demands, and demonstrate the highest level of client service and response

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree Required

  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative and work under pressure

  • Enthusiasm for working at a non-profit organization

  • Passion for social justice for immigrants required

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred but not required

Supervisory Responsibility
This position has heavy supervisory responsibilities, supervising a team of four to six direct reports while helping to oversee the support team as a whole.


Classification and Work Schedule
This is a full-time, exempt position. Work schedule is Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. with flexibility required based on the needs of the organization.


Work Environment and Physical Demands

This job operates in a professional office environment. This is largely a sedentary role; however, some filing is required. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand as necessary.


No overnight travel is expected for this position. There may be occasional local day travel.

Salary and Benefits


  • $55,000 - $65,000 annually DOE

Holidays and Paid Time Off

  • 12 paid holidays 

  • 1-Week paid winter break between Christmas and New Years

  • 15 vacation days per year

  • 12 Sick Days per year


Health, Dental and Vision Insurance

  • ImmDef offers a number of health plans that are 100% paid plans for staff starting on the 1st of the month following 30 days of employment.

  • Additionally, we pay 75% of the premiums for select plans for immediate family members, including registered domestic partners.


FSA and Dependent Care FSA

  • ImmDef offers FSA plans to help offset the costs of eligible health care expenses for you, your spouse, and your eligible dependents using pre-tax dollars

  • We also offer Dependent Care FSA to pay for eligible dependent care services, such as preschool, summer day camp, before or after school programs, and child or adult daycare.


401(k) Retirement Savings Plan

  • ImmDef staff are eligible to enroll in our 401(k) plans immediately upon hire, contributing pre-tax dollars towards their retirement goals

  • After six months on staff, ImmDef will match 100% of contributions up to 3%

  • Funds are vested immediately!


Public Service Loan Forgiveness

  • As a 501(c)3, qualified ImmDef staff are eligible for Public Service Loan Forgiveness

Parking and Travel Stipend

  • ImmDef Staff commuting into our DTLA office are eligible for reimbursement of parking or public transit costs up to $90 per month.
