DESCRIPTION

In order to increase access to justice for people facing immigration court, ImmDef is currently hiring additional legal and administrative staff.

The Immigrant Defenders Law Center (“ImmDef”) is a next-generation, social justice law firm that provides high-quality representation and legal services to immigrants in Southern California. ImmDef was founded with the belief that no immigrant should be forced to go into court alone and our universal representation programs for children and adults are a first step towards that goal. The Development Manager will be responsible for the creation, expansion and administration of ImmDef’s development program including the management of our fundraising and grants/contracts proposals. The Development Manager will report to the Associate Director, while managing a team tasked with furthering the development of our grants and contracts management, fundraising and volunteer and donations coordination.

The ideal candidate will be a motivated self-starter, with experience managing donor and stewardship efforts of an organization, creating systems for contracts management and organizing fundraising events. The successful applicant will have the unique opportunity to help create ImmDef’s development program from the ground up.

Responsibilities.

1.     Development (85%)

  • Develop internal systems, communications, and protocol to support, secure, and sustain opportunities for funding, including grant development, application and reporting;

  • Create systems and procedures to ensure contract and grant compliance for all of ImmDef’s current funding sources;

  • Oversee fund development for ImmDef, to establish and execute on strategies to increase revenues, including through annual, major, foundation, and corporate giving, public and private grants, capital campaign, and special events;

  • Successfully manage execution of fundraising plan ensuring effective communication with internal and external stakeholders

  • Create written procedures and protocols for development team;

  • Work closely with Associate and Executive Directors to develop strategies for major gifts and to identify opportunities for funding, organizing funding and solicitation efforts in the form of grants, donations, fundraising, campaigns, and/or other means available;

  • Plan and manage special events meeting strategic fund development and communication goals;

  • Maintain a portfolio of major gift donors and prospects, and engage in donor cultivation and gift solicitation, including in-kind gifts;

  • Acknowledge gifts in a timely manner as appropriate;

  • Implement campaigns to secure new donors and retain existing donors;

  • Other special projects as needed.

2.     Communications (15%)

  • Work with consultants (as needed) to streamline and improve ImmDef’s website;

  • Develop original content for ImmDef’s social media and website;

  • Help coordinate media events and reporter inquiries;

  • Other special projects as needed.

Desired Qualifications

  1. Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree preferred. Significant related experience may substitute for a degree;

  2. Exceptional written and oral communication skills;

  3. Excellent interpersonal and public relations skills;

  4. At least three years of experience in fundraising with a record of proven major giving experience;

  5. History of creating and implementing comprehensive strategic fundraising plans;

  6. Experience with relationship management, donor stewardship, and major giving;

  7. Ability to work independently and diligently to develop content for website and social media campaigns;

  8. Passion for social justice for immigrants required;

  9. DACA recipients are strongly encouraged to apply.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has moderate supervisory responsibilities, supervising a team of two to three direct reports and overseeing the projects that each team member is responsible for. As team grows, supervisory responsibilities may expand.

Classification and Work Schedule

This is a full-time, exempt position. Work schedule is Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. with flexibility required based on the needs of the organization. Additionally, work on nights and weekends can be expected as organization and fundraising needs dictate.

Salary & Benefits

Pay 

  • $55,000 - $65,000 annually DOE 

Holidays and Paid Time Off

  • 12 paid;

  • 1-Week paid winter break between Christmas and New Years;

  • 15 vacation days per year

  • 12 Sick Days per year

 

Health, Dental and Vision Insurance

  • ImmDef offers a number of health plans that are 100% paid plans for staff starting on the 1st of the month following 30 days of employment

  • Additionally, we pay 75% of the premiums for select plans for immediate family members, including registered domestic partners

 

FSA and Dependent Care FSA

  • ImmDef offers FSA plans to help offset the costs of eligible health care expenses for you, your spouse, and your eligible dependents using pre-tax dollars

  • We also offer Dependent Care FSA to pay for eligible dependent care services, such as preschool, summer day camp, before or after school programs, and child or adult daycare

 

401(k) Retirement Savings Plan

  •  ImmDef staff are eligible to enroll in our 401(k) plans immediately upon hire, contributing pre-tax dollars towards their retirement goals

  • After six months on staff, ImmDef will match 100% of contributions up to 3%

  • Funds are vested immediately!

 

Public Service Loan Forgiveness

  • As a 501(c)3, qualified ImmDef staff are eligible for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program.

 

Parking and Travel Stipend

  • ImmDef Staff commuting into our DTLA office are eligible for reimbursement of parking or public transit costs up to $90 per month.
